NBA mock draft 2013: Chad Ford has Pistons taking Michael Carter-Williams

After going away from the majority feeling that the Detroit Pistons will target a point guard on June 27, Chad Ford returned to a point guard in his 4.0 mock draft on Tuesday.

With the eighth selection in the 2013 NBA Draft, Ford now thinks the Pistons will select Syracuse's Michael Carter-Williams. Here's his analysis:

The Pistons have a lot of interest in grabbing a small forward here, but right now I don't think there's anyone on the table except for Shabazz Muhammad, and I'm not sure that's the right play for Detroit. I'm hearing with increasing frequency the Pistons might target a point guard. The team thinks Brandon Knight might be more effective at the two, and if they could get a big point guard like Carter-Williams, he could be the perfect fit in the backcourt with Knight. They really would like a pure playmaker who can help their young guys get better. Given Carter-Williams' significant upside, he might be a great play here.

I hope the Pistons wouldn't pass over Victor Oladipo to snag Carter-Williams, but Ford now has Oladipo going No. 2 overall to the Magic. If Oladipo, Otto Porter, Ben McLemore and Trey Burke are all off the board, do you think Carter-Williams would be a decent consolation prize? That is, if the Pistons don't opt to move down in the draft via trade, which seems like a pretty good play at this point.
