The Detroit Pistons are one of several teams interested in free agent shooting guard O.J. Mayo, according to Yahoo's Marc J. Spears.
While Detroit might be able to offer significant money, Mayo is also reportedly being personally wooed by new Clippers coach Doc Rivers who wants Mayo to join him in Los Angeles.
Spears reports that Mayo is also scheduled to speak to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Milwaukee Bucks and Utah Jazz.
Considering that the Pistons have been linked to both O.J. Mayo and Eric Bledsoe, anyone squeamish about those deals could see two birds killed with one stone if the Mavericks and Clippers agree to a sign-and-trade deal.
Matt Moore of CBS explores the possibility:
USA Today also reports that with salary cap restrictions, the Clippers could be angling for a sign-and-trade deal for Mayo involving Bledsoe, which would suit both teams. It would give the Clippers the wing they've been looking for and the Mavericks a new point guard for Rick Carlisle to
destroy the soul ofdevelop.
Also, the news that the Milwaukee Bucks are interested in Mayo coincides with reports that they are no longer making J.J. Redick a priority. If that is the case, perhaps the Pistons should get involved in those talks instead.
Especially if Detroit signs Andre Iguodala or Josh Smith, they will need to pair some serious three-point threats (Reddick and Jose Calderon, perhaps?) to make the offense work.
