The first player the Pistons visited when free agency opened July 1 was Josh Smith. There was a "fear" the Pistons would strike out on their top targets, but according to Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski, Smith and the Pistons have come to terms on a scary deal that will make Smith, 27, a Piston for the next four years:
Josh Smith has agreed to a four year, $56 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, league sources tell Y! Sports.

This is the "substantial" offer Woj initially reported, because this is certainly a big splash. As Vincent Goodwill tweeted shortly after that report, the Pistons must believe Smith can play the three with Drummond and Monroe, and also play the four, his more natural position at this point, with either or. Dubious. Smith will have to prove he can play the three, starting by shedding some weight and working on his shot (a lot).
At the very least, the Pistons just got a whole lot more athletic ... and interesting.
We'll surely have more on this signing, but for now, your doom and gloom thoughts.
