The Pistons released the following announcement this afternoon regarding the Will Bynum for Joel Anthony trade:
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has acquired center Joel Anthony from the Boston Celtics in exchange for guard Will Bynum.
“We are pleased to welcome Joel Anthony to the organization,” said Jeff Bower, General Manager for the Detroit Pistons. “Joel is an experienced front court player who adds size, toughness and depth to our frontcourt. We thank Will Bynum for his contributions and wish him the best in the future.”
Anthony, 32, has averaged 2.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 16.0 minutes in 403 career games (110 starts) with Miami and Boston. Acquired by Boston in a mid-season trade from Miami last season, the 6-foot-9, 245-pound center averaged 1.2 rebounds and 5.6 minutes in 33 games. Undrafted out of the University of Las Vegas Nevada, Anthony has averaged a career-high of 3.9 rebounds per game twice (2007-08 and 2011-12). He averaged a career-high 3.5 points per game during his rookie season with Miami. Anthony is a career 50% shooter from the field and played a career-high 80 games during the 2009-10 season. He was a member of the HEAT’s 2012 and 2013 NBA Championship teams.
Bynum, 31, has career NBA averages of 8.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 18.5 minutes in 353 games. Undrafted out of Georgia Tech, the 6-foot, 185-pound guard signed as a free agent with Detroit prior to the 2008-09 season. In six seasons with the Pistons, Bynum averaged 8.4 points, 3.4 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 338 games. The Chicago, Illinois native set a franchise record for points in a quarter with 26 fourth quarter points vs. Charlotte (4/5/09).
