The Detroit Pistons are the worst team in the NBA.
They cemented that status with a lifeless, incompetent performance against the 1-18 Philadelphia 76ers, falling in overtime 108-101.
The Pistons were outscored 8-1 in overtime and went 0-for-11 from the floor. And watching it was even worse than all of that sounds.
Detroit did nothing on either end of the floor that was in any way encouraging for the future of the Pistons.
Josh Smith scored 23 points and had eight rebounds and seven assists in a staggering 48 minutes of action, but he faded late and committed a terrible foul late that allowed the Sixers some free throws in the final minute of the fourth.
Greg Monroe had 15 and nine boards but missed some key shots under the basket late in the fourth and in overtime.
Brandon Jennings is obviously not healthy as his shooting woes continued (2-of-10) and executed the most stupifyingly dumb possession in the final play of regulation.
Andre Drummond was again a nonfactor, playing only 20 minutes and allowing the Sixers easy access to the lane.
But at least Kyle Singler scored 21 points.
The Pistons opponents finishing out 2014 -- OKC, Portland, Phoenix, Sacramento, LA Clippers, Dallas, Toronto, Brooklyn, Indiana, Cleveland, Orlando.
Detroit could realistically be 3-27.
Blow it all the way up.
