What should be the name of the Pistons' new D-League team?

New, comments

New team will play in Grand Rapids next season and there will be a contest to help determine its name.

The Detroit Pistons will announce details about it's new NBA Development League team in Grand Rapids at a press conference at 4 p.m. on April 15 at DeltaPlex Arena.

The arrangement will be a "hybrid" partnership with the Pistons controlling all basketball operations while business operations will be controlled by a still unannounced local ownership group.

Most recently, the Pistons were one of six teams that shared D-League affiliation with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. The Grand Rapids team, which is relocating from Springfield, Mass., will play its games at the DeltaPlex Arena.

Most importantly, however, is that the team has said there will be a contest announced at the press conference for fans to help name the Grand Rapids team.

As a transplant into Michigan, I must say that I have never been to Grand Rapids and know absolutely nothing about it. I will leave it to the DBB faithful to crowd source some quality D-League names.

The perfect name would probably capture some of the local history or charm of Grand Rapids while also having at least some connection to the automotive theme of the parent club. Though, obviously, the former is much more important than the latter.

Have at in the comments. Maybe if there are enough quality (and clean) suggestions, we'll put together a poll and see if we can have a DBB-christened entry.
