As a lurker in this website for almost 5 years now, I’ve finally decided to come out and actually join in on all the DBB discussions. I’ve done a lot of reading for the past years from the insightful articles all the way to the chaotic yet humorous comments sections. I’m only 20 years old so my love for the Pistons may not burn as much a fiery passion as it does for the rest of you, but I have been fan for more than half my life, so I think that’s a good start.
That being said, I want to make a splash in my DBB debut with some healthy trade speculation involving none other than GREG MONROE. Now, before you shun me forever as blasphemous Pistons fan, this, I believe, is the one trade scenario where we can actually get away with the best player. That player of course is Kevin Love.
If you’ve been reading around the rumor mill, the Minnesota Timberwolves have made it known that they’re open to trading Kevin Love before his contract expires. As of next season, Love will have 2 years left of his contract amounting to roughly 32 million. Love has spent 6 years with the Wolves organization without a single playoff appearance to show for it. So here I am thinking: "Am I crazy to believe that we can actually offer Greg Monroe for Kevin Love?" Now a lot of things have to be considered and there are way too many factors that are in play for this to happen, but let’s try to have some fun with it.
Firstly, Monroe is going to have to agree to a sign-and-trade situation. His contract would mostly like be a 4-year contract to insure security and would have to be around max or near max to be financially possible by cap space rules. Now does Monroe for Love work straight up? Probably not. The Wolves would mostly likely ask for any combinations of draft picks and cheap young role players. I won’t pretend to know any of that stuff so you guys can chime in your two cents on that.
But the reason I think we have a shot at this, as slim as it may seem, is that because we provide the Wolves with a player with a rare combination of youth, skill and potential. Not a lot of teams are willing to give that much without sacrificing their future. We’re so lucky to have that luxury. So in other words, they won’t feel robbed. We, on the other hand, receive one of the best, if not the best stretch 4 in the NBA. With SVG on tow and Drummond beasting, it would at least make Love think it over. Again, this is pure speculation. We aren’t sure how serious the Wolves are in wanting trade Love. Do I wanna trade Monroe? No, but if it means getting a player as versatile as Kevin Love, I would. I’m no expert, so hopefully you guys can help make an even more intriguing trade scenario out of this. Peace.
