NBA Free Agents 2014: Cavaliers might jump into mix for Greg Monroe

The Detroit Pistons will not get Greg Monroe at a discount. The skilled big man has already received interest fromthe Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks and the Portland Trail Blazers. Now, the Cleveland Cavaliers have joined the mix according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Thanks for making that clear, Marc. My heart just can't take this anymore.

So anybody thinking that the Pistons are likely going to get Monroe at the "bargain rate" of between $10 and $12 million better start re-calibrating their expectations. Monroe is a David Falk client and Falk clients usually find their way to maximum value. Falk was able to pull a similar trick with Roy Hibbert when he worked out a offer sheet with the aforementioned Blazers.

So if you are dead set against the Pistons overpaying for Monroe then it's time to start putting together sign-and-trade proposals with the teams mentioned. Because, as Stan Van Gundy has indicated, the team has done their due diligence on figuring out what return would be required to let go of Monroe.

Of the Cavs specifically, I'm not sure what they could offer the Pistons that would be terribly appealing. Andrew Wiggins isn't going anywhere, the freshly minted max player Kyrie Irving is staying put and that leaves a not very intoxicating stew of Dion Waiters, Anthony Bennett, Tristan Thompson, Spencer Hawes and Anderson Varejao.
