Despite DeMarcus Cousins being out due to an injured knee, Andre Drummond did not play on Saturday in Chicago. Anthony Davis and Mason Plumlee saw all of the minutes in the middle while Drummond was cemented to the bench.
Prior to Saturday's game, Drummond was expected to play -- some reporters even speculated that he might start alongside fellow 21-year-old Anthony Davis -- so it was extremely disappointing to see him not receive even a second of playing time in Team USA's 17-point win.
Davis was the star of the game, scoring 20 points with 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. Plumlee played 15 minutes and had 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
Assuming Drummond's not cut beforehand, his next opportunity to prove himself in game action will be next Wednesday in New York, where USA will play the Dominican Republic. It was already looking like Drummond would be the odd man out before not playing on Saturday. Team USA has seven practices and three exhibition games remaining before they have to trim the roster from 15 to 12 and travel to Spain for the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
