The Detroit Pistons face their old big man Greg Monroe for the first time since Moose signed with the Milwaukee Bucks as a free agent during the offseason. Ersan Ilyasova also returns to Milwaukee for the first time since joining the Pistons as Monroe's replacement.
Where: Bradley Center, Milwaukee
When: Oct. 10, 2015 at 8:30 PM
Watch: Be at the game? Visualize while watching the box score? I'm not sure how else.
The Pistons are 0-2 to start the preseason in large part due to a 'terrible' defensive effort in Game 1 and an overall very 'selfish' performance in Game 2. What adjective will Stan Van Gundy come up with to describe his team's effort in Game 3? 'Mess' is how MLIVE described the Pistons right now. It sounds like the team hasn't settled on a defensive system, yet, which is worrisome for a team that has the biggest question marks surrounding its defense. Maybe it won't be the end of _etroit Basketball after all. Maybe we should let the preseason play out.
The Bucks preseason home opener will present a strong test for the Pistons. The Bucks have beaten the Pistons three in a row, and none of those games last season were particularly close. Of course, Greg Monroe and Ersan Ilyasova swapped teams during the offseason. Monroe put up six points and grabbed four rebounds in his 17-minute Bucks debut.
The Bucks lost their preseason opener to the Chicago Bulls, much like the Pistons lost on Thursday night to the Nets -- the Bulls were missing half of their team and Bucks still lost by 10, 105-95. The Bucks sat most of their starters in the second half and in doing so saw some really promising things from their 1st-round draft pick Rashad Vaughn (20 points) and 20-year-old Damien Inglis (11 points and nine rebounds), who sat out all of last year with an ankle injury. While Jabari Parker missed their first game and is unlikely to play again on Saturday, the Bucks seem to have plenty of talent to expose the Pistons' weak defense.
Players to Watch
Ilyasova and Monroe, duh. Both face their old teams for the first time since joining their new teams, so of course eyes will be on them.
-- Current Bucks Khris Middleton and Greg Monroe are former Pistons
-- Current Pistons Ersan Ilyasova, Jodie Meeks, Steve Blake and Brandon Jennings are former Bucks
-- Bucks GM Hammond was Pistons VP of Basketball Operations for seven years
I thought the Pistons would win the first two games and they lost, so I'll predict a loss here. Bucks 97, Pistons 94.
Pistons: Jackson, Caldwell-Pope, Morris, Illyasova, Drummond
Bucks: MCW, Vaughn, Middleton, Antetokounmpo, Monroe
Pistons: Jennings (Achilles), Thomas (Achilles), Granger (knee), Baynes (Ankle), Blake (Concussion)
Will you cheer or jeer the Moose?
