NBA draft 2015: Mario Hezonja goes to Pistons in Chad Ford's first mock after lottery

New, comments

Chad Ford's Mock Draft 5.0, the first after the lottery results, has the Pistons taking a Croatian wing.

On Tuesday night, it was revealed that the Pistons keep their pre-draft slot and select No. 8 overall in the upcoming 2015 NBA draft. On Wednesday, Chad Ford updated his mock draft board to reflect the slightly updated first round order. Today, in case you haven't seen it yet, I'm posting the Pistons mocked pick here for you to see and discuss.

Ford mocks the Pistons to take a 6-foot-7 (or 6-foot-8 according to Draft Express) small forward from Croatia, Mario Hezonja. If you recall, Rakesh talked a little about Hezonja in this awesome post on the Pistons' overseas options. From the looks of his numbers, Hezonja can stroke it in Euroleague.

Here's what Ford had to say:

The Pistons have need at shooting guard, small forward and possibly at power forward should Greg Monroe decide to bail. Hezonja's ability to play either wing position should be very attractive to them. So should his 3-point shooting, as the Pistons could really use it. While Hezonja didn't get a lot of touches or minutes in Spain this season, when he was on the court he was very effective, especially in Euroleague play. Justise Winslow, Stanley Johnson, Myles Turner and Devin Booker are the other players the Pistons will look at seriously with this pick.

For what it's worth, Stanley Johnson went to the Heat at No. 10 in this mock and Frank Kaminsky fell to the Suns at No. 13.

Now your thoughts.
