The Detroit Pistons plan to sign Grand Rapids Drive point guard Lorenzo Brown to a 10-day contract, as first reported by Shams Charnia of Yahoo's The Vertical, and later confirmed by Pistons beat writers.
Brown is seen as insurance as Reggie Jackson was reportedly dealing with breathing and fatigue issues against the Atlanta Hawks. Jackson missed the Pistons' practice today to visit a doctor, and Van Gundy also said that Spencer Dinwiddie is not yet 100 percent and the team didn't want to get stuck short-handed without an available third point guard.
Jackson said after the Hawks game he was "a little sick" and that it was hard to catch his breath. He credited the issue to mucous buildup, according to David Mayo of MLive.
Brown has averaged 18.3 points, 5.9 assists and 2.1 steals in 25 games for the Drive this season. Brown was the 52nd overall pick of the 2013 draft. He's played in 63 NBA games over three seasons, including a previous 10-day deal this season with the Phoenix Suns. With the Suns, Brown averaged 2.5 points and 1.4 assists in 7.6 minutes per game.
The Pistons had an available roster spot after opting not to sign Justin Harper for the remainder of the season after his second 10-day deal expired.
