Jeff Bower signs multi-year contract extension with the Pistons

While Stan Van Gundy got the votes for executive of the year, Jeff Bower has been behind the scenes doing the dirty work.

Jeff Bower has signed a multi-year extension to remain the General Manager of the Pistons, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Veritcal. While there are not any contract details as of now, this is a well deserved extension.

Jeff Bower was hired by Stan Van Gundy in 2014 to be the General Manager when Van Gundy accepted the role of President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach of the Detroit Pistons. Bower was entering the final year of a 3-year deal that he signed when he was hired by the franchise.

The two have worked extremely well together, and have worked their magic in the trade market. Some notable trades orchestrated by the dynamic duo include acquiring Reggie Jackson for Kyle Singler and D.J. Augustin, acquiring Tobias Harris for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova, and robbing Phoenix of Marcus Morris and Reggie Bullock for a 2020 2nd round pick.

While Stan Van Gundy gets most of the credit for these moves among the media and basketball observers, it is really Jeff Bower and his staff who do the dirty work and find these opportunities. Stan Van Gundy simply signs off of these moves and focuses on coaching. He has made sure to give Bower credit where it is due whenever discussing any move made by the team.

The Pistons are a franchise on the rise, and Jeff Bower and Stan Van Gundy are the biggest reason for that.

This is a well-deserved extension for Bower, and it shows that the Pistons are committed to a winning culture created by Van Gundy and Bower.

This story will be updated if there is any news on contract details.

What are your thoughts, DBB? Do you think Bower has earned this extension?

UPDATE: Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press is reporting that it is a one year extension.
