As you know, Aron Baynes (Australia) and rookie Michael Gbinije (Nigeria) are representing their respective countries in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Both saw action for their teams in the preliminaries over the weekend, so here’s a quick update on some actual basketball (and hair).
Baynes helped Australia to an 87-66 win over France in the Group A preliminary round by scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Pistons starting point guard Reggie Jackson was watching and tweeted notice:
My man @aronbaynes out there killing in these Olympics #dontcallitanupset #lightwork

Baynes wasn’t exactly killing the hair game, though:

(Or maybe that’s cool? To each his own, and I’m bald.)
Australia plays Serbia today at 1:15 p.m. ET. You can learn more here.
Gbinije didn’t play as well as Baynes, only scoring six points on 2-for-7 shooting in Nigeria’s Group B preliminary blowout loss to Argentina. Gbinije also had four rebounds and three assists, though.
Nigeria plays again on Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET vs. Lithuania.
