Perhaps we're thinking of Stanley all wrong

Many are mad that Stanley Johnson still seems offensively challenged. After all, we--as basketball fans--have been conditioned to expect starting small forwards in the NBA to be scoring machines. Admittedly, Stanley does not seem to have that kind of shooting prowess nor that kind of feel for the offensive game. However, maybe we shouldn't be comparing him to the Jimmy Butler's of the world. Instead of being a more offensively challenged version of Butler or Ron Artest, maybe Stanley is a more offensively-GIFTED version of Dennis Rodman or Ben Wallace. As he showed on opening night, Stanley can guard whomever you need him to guard, and he can affect the game a great deal without scoring any points. Sure a dirty work player with inconsistent offense is not what Pistons fans thought they were getting with that lottery pick 3 years ago. But, if Stanley can lock down the opponents best wing every night, he's worth having on this team.
