Pistons High / Low: Pistons pull away from undermanned Suns

Film don’t lie.

NBA: Phoenix Suns at Detroit Pistons Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Not sure what’s more embarrassing, blowout losses to the Cavaliers and Jazz, or going toe-to-toe with the G-League Suns. Nevertheless, the Pistons pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 112-95 win.

To the tape!

High

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s 23 points included five-of-nine beyond the arc:

Three of his team-high eight assists came on connections with Andre Drummond:

Unsolicited tip to Phoenix: put the Dre handoff and roll on the scouting report.

****

Off a Suns’ PNR, Drummond meets the ultra quick Ulis north of the three point line and forces and tough shot:

****

Mismatched with Tyler Ulis, Jon Leuer does a good job of containment at the end of the first quarter:

****

What’s the easiest way to get a bucket?

Follow Ish Smith on his way to the basket.

Time for the High/Low Ish block:

And like all good shot blockers, he keeps it in play.

****

Reggie Jackson shows off two of his more athletic moves:

****

Great verticality shown by Baynes:

****

Low

Initially, Jon Leuer shows high to force Tyler Ulis baseline, when Jared Dudley slips the screen, he attracts both Leuer and Baynes:

****

Leuer forces a (late) pass to Ish Smith.

****

Zero rotation or help:

****

Slick pass by Ulis:

Aided by Drummond leaving his feet.

****

Just shy of seven total minutes saw Stanley Johnson collect a plus/minus -17. Other than a half court heave and the miss below, he didn’t record a single stat.

See you in Brooklyn.
