The BIG3 professional 3-on-3 basketball league founded in part by Ice Cube will make its debut this summer with a trio of former Pistons in starring roles.

Chauncey Billups is a captain of the Killer 3s team, with Malice at the Palace co-captain Stephen Jackson as his co-captain. Rick Mahorn will be coaching the Trilogy, led by Kenyon Martin and Al Harrington.

Alleged former Piston Allen Iverson will be the only player filling the coach/captain role, playing for the team 3’s Company. That’ll go well, I’m sure.

The league is made up of eight teams consisting of former NBA players, including some greats. It will be 3-on-3 with rosters of five players and a total of eight teams. The eight week season starts on June 25 and travels to a different city each week. On August 20 they’ll play the playoffs in Seattle and a championship game on August 26 in Las Vegas.

There are some interesting rule additions, like a four point shot if a player is touching any part of the four point circle. Teams play first to 60 points win, must win by four points. And of course, you’ve got to take it back on a miss.

Other former Pistons involved are Mike James from part of the 2004 championship team, Corey Maggette (who is a team captain), Junk Yard Dog Jerome Williams, Kwame Brown, and Brian Cook (former Summer League Piston).

Games will be aired the on Fox Sports on the following Monday, with the championship to be shown live.
