The Detroit Pistons take on the Dallas Mavericks in the Orlando Summer League championship game. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game is available on NBA TV and on the Watch ESPN app.
The Pistons have been led by strong play from second-year power forward Henry Ellenson and rookie Luke Kennard. Ellenson has struggled on defense in space but he is scoring from all over the floor in a multitude of ways. The bi man is second in summer league averaging 20.5 points per game.
Kennard is averaging a healthy 15.5 points per game and has hit 40 percent of his 3-pointers. He’s also collected 16 rebounds, 11 assists and seven steals in four summer league contests so far.
Also showing out have been big man Eric Moreland and point guard Pierre Jackson. Moreland reportedly played himself into a contract to be the Pistons third-string center. It’s less likely Jackson makes the club as the team already has three point guards in Reggie Jackson, Ish Smith and the recently signed Langston Galloway.
The Mavericks are led by point guard Dwight Buycks, who has had cups of coffee with the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Lakers, and has floated around the D League and international basketball scene.
The 28-year-old is averaging 16.7 points.
