Vegas oddsmaker sets Pistons over/under at 38.5 wins

Vegas also projects Pistons to miss the playoffs again this year.

Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook manager Jeff Sherman set the opening Pistons over/under at at 38.5 wins - an improvement over last season, but not by much.

He also puts the Pistons making the playoffs at +130 for yes or -150 for no - or in other words, making a return to the lottery the favorite for Detroit.

Based on the O/U numbers, Sherman looks for the Pistons to be the ninth best team in the Eastern Conference behind (in order) the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, and Philadelphia 76ers.

It’s tough to argue too heavily in Detroit’s favor, as the Pistons are making their own gamble on an increase effectiveness from their key players.

Still, it’s possible the Pistons could benefit from the disparity between the rich and poor in the conference. Based on Sherman’s numbers, the bottom of the East looks bad. Really bad.

Sherman has the Chicago Bulls over/under mark at 22.5 wins, the Atlanta Hawks at 25.5, the New York Knicks at 31, and the Indiana Pacers at 31.5.

It’s a hefty drop from last season’s opening over/under line that ranged from 44.5 to 45.5 wins for the Pistons, of course which had the under as the winning bet. But Detroit hit the over for 2015-16, which had its opening line set at 33.5 wins.

What say you DBB? Are you taking the over or under for the Pistons this year?
