Normally this is the time I would start looking at the lotto, instead I'm firing up the trade machine

We have no first unless we get a top 4 pick. Nate Silver has us at 19% right now, that will go up or down according to what happens in the games today. I'm looking ahead though to what happens if we finish out of the playoffs (likely) lose our first round pick to the clippers and want to make changes next season.

I assume we keep Luke Kennard because he's really good, and Blake Griffin because his contract is so big and he's not a spring chicken any more. I assume Reggie Jackson comes back for a few weeks this year and then next year gives us about a half season maybe more of healthy production, capped at 27 minutes, so that will be good to have him back and of course he won't be tradable because of his recent injury history, conditioning problems, tendinitis and this season ending ankle sprain. I am pretty sure once Reggie comes back at the end of the season this year, he won't make us any better, as he won't be even close to any kind of basketball condition, but it doesn't matter if we play him or not, as (again just the most likely scenario) our pick is going to the clippers. I guess we play him as many minutes as we can because that will be our best lineup next year.

But how do we improve in the off season? I have to think our #1 asset for improving next year is trading away Drummond. He's a legit all star, no matter how he got into all star game this year and no matter what anyone says it's clear to my eyes that he is still improving. No matter what fans here say about him (you people that say he "mopes") he's a damn good player and I guess that's who we move if we want to improve.

Our second choice is to move Stanley Johnson. His drives to the basket are balling and he has looked more natural now that he has been given the green light to do what he does best instead of being molded into a 3 and D guy that SVG wanted him to be.

So I think those are our two assets we can trade to improve the team next year. We also have one more pick we can toss out, I think our 2020 1st rounder is still available, so maybe we can package Stanley and a 1st to improve the team, but it would be a hard deal to make work as we are right against the hard cap right now. So moving Stanley to improve the team will be harder than moving Drummond.

I haven't fired up the trade machine yet but I guess that's the next step. Drummond is my favorite player on our team right now but I think maybe that's who has to go for the team to finally get a legit starting point guard who won't be a broken down tinker toy.

And no, Arnie Kander is not going to come out of retirement and save our broken down point guard.
