Being the top overall pick in the WNBA draft was probably not a huge shock for A’ja Wilson — the consensus national player of the year out of South Carolina. Wilson was taken No. 1 overall by the Las Vegas Aces.
What did shock Wilson, however, was the surprise message waiting for her from her favorite NBA player — Detroit Piston forward Blake Griffin.
Being the first overall pick AND getting a message from her favorite player @blakegriffin23.

“A’ja, what’s up? Congratulations on being drafted. It’s been very fun to watch your college career and to see you go to the next level. I can’t wait to see what you do in the league. You’re going to dominate for a long, long time. So, again, congrats, and I’ll be watching.”
The best part is when Wilson got over the shock of watching it the first time and demanded to watch it again, this time having a back-and-forth conversation with Griffin’s prerecorded message.
“Hey!”
“Thank you.”
“You watched?”
“I’m sorry ... ”
“Thank you!”
