DBB on 3: Guilty pleasures and hot takes

Some of us have teams and players outside of the Pistons we get to root for this time of year that we’ve only crushed on thus far

It’s of course tough having your team (in this case the Detroit Pistons) out of the playoff race but this time of year a lot of us get to spend a little more time watching the teams and players we have given a sidelong glance all year. (Or watched them tie their shoes perhaps.)

That forbidden crush.

We asked a selection of writers to give the players and teams they have secret feelings for outside of the Pistons (who are of course our ball and chain). We also through in a few hot(ish) takes on Finals matchups.

Who is your favorite guilty pleasure team you love to watch in the East? Favorite player?

Justin Lambregtse: The Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron James.

Ben Quagliata: Milwaukee Bucks. Matthew Dellavedova.

Michael Snyder: LeBron James is no guilty pleasure but I’d watch him tie (velcro) his shoes for two hours.

Steve Hinson: The Raptors, of course. Favorite player: Masai Ujiri.

Ryan Pravato: Philadelphia 76ers. Joel Embiid, a complete player and entertainer.

Jordan Bellant: Philadelphia 76ers. Joel Embiid

Who is your favorite guilty pleasure team you love to watch in the West? Favorite player?

Justin Lambregtse: Portland Trail Blazers. Damian Lillard

Ben Quagliata: New Orleans Pelicans. Jrue Holiday.

Michael Snyder: James Harden has the ball on a string and it’s mesmerizing.

Steve Hinson: Denver Nuggets Utah Jazz. Playoff Anthony Davis is a sight to behold, I’m so glad he’s back in it.

Ryan Pravato: Utah Jazz. Donovan Mitchell. If there was a legitimate talent evaluator in the Pistons organization, Mitchell would be ours right now. (But, actually, Joe Ingles is my favorite player)

Jordan Bellant: New Orleans Pelicans. Boogie and The Brow! But mostly, Boogie.

What’s your hot take on an unexpected Finals matchup?

Justin Lambregtse: Not sure how much of a hot take it is because they are the number 1 seed, but I think the Houston Rockets will take down the Golden State Warriors and face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals.

Ben Quagliata: Like Justin, hardly a hot take but I think Houston can get to the Finals. I also predicted a Cavs-Rockets Finals with the Rockets in 5-6.

Michael Snyder: I’m out of the hot take business.

Steve Hinson: The Raptors are going to make it. I’m telling you, it’s finally happening.

Ryan Pravato: Since we know the Cavs won’t be there, that leaves it open for the Raptors or Sixers. So, I’ll be fun and say 76ers vs. Warriors in the Finals. Though, if I was betting money, I’d take the Raptors to make the Finals.

Jordan Bellant: Unexpected... Philadelphia and Oklahoma City would be weird and fun.
