Pistons vs. 76ers final score: Pistons playoff hopes officially squashed, lose 115-108

NBA: Philadelphia 76ers at Detroit Pistons Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

If you’ve been holding out hope for a miraculous playoff bid, you can let go now. It’s over.

The Pistons loss to the 76ers officially eliminated them from the playoff picture and also ended their chances to end the season above .500. Winning out would now put them at 41 wins.

A defensive collapse in the first quarter let Philly run up a quick lead that they didn’t relinquish. If you blinked in the final two minutes of the first, the Pistons went from down by one point to down eight just that fast.

And things didn’t get much better as the 76ers ran their lead up to as much as 19.

It was a rough night for Reggie Jackson, as he shot 1-11 from the field. He also had seven assists and shot went 6-6 from the free throw line, but still, it wasn’t his night.

Stan Van Gundy gave Ish Smith the reins for the comeback bid, and he was brilliant in the fourth quarter. He had 12 points and 6 assists in the period. It was enough to make the final score look respectable, but not enough to make the results ever in doubt.
