Pistons 2019 Free Agency Situation

After 2 little trades, the Pistons currently have 10 players under contract for the 2019-20 season:

  • Blake Griffin $34,234,964
  • Andre Drummond $27,093,019
  • Reggie Jackson $18,086,956
  • Jon Leuer $9,508,043
  • Langston Galloway $7,333,333
  • Luke Kennard $3,827,160
  • Thon Maker $3,569,643
  • Sviatoslav Mykhauliuk $1,416,852
  • Bruce Brown $1,416,852
  • Khyri Thomas $838,464

Also, if there are no trades, we will have a first and a second round pick. So,

  • 1st rounder $2.5M (aprox. depends on the pick)
  • 2nd rounder $1M (or slightly less)

That leaves us with 12 players, plus, the Josh Smith money,

  • Josh Smith $5,331,729

So that adds up to a total of:

  • Total garanteed money for 2019-20: $116,150,000 (aprox.)
We will want to be right under the Luxury Tax Threshold, and it is projected to be at $132,000,000 for next season.

That means, we should have a bit more than $15M to spend this summer, and 3 open roster spots (assuming there are no trades or significant moves).

We could get a veteran for the minimum like Zaza, and spend the remaining $14M or so on a starting caliber SF and a solid backup PG, I think those are the main goals in free agency for this team, as Ish is expiring and our wings are young and unproven.

Here is a list of possible targets.

Backup PG:

-Jeremy Lin

-Rajon Rondo

-Ish Smith

-Patrick Beverley

-Jose Barea

-Emmanuel Mudiay

-Elfrid Payton

-Terry Rozier

-Shelvin Mack

-Delon Wright

-Tyus Jones

-Tim Frazier

-Trey Burke

-TJ McConell

Among others. We could also use the first rounder to get the backup PG, sign a vet minimum third PG, and another cheap free agent vet, and spend $10-14M on a starting SF.

Some starting wing possible targets:

-Trevor Ariza

-DeMarre Carroll

-Wilson Chandler

-Bojan Bogdanovic

-Rudy Gay

-Wesley Johnson

-Michael Beasley

-Jeff Green

-Kelly Oubre Jr

-Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

-Dorian Finney-Smith

-Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

-Terrence Ross

-Danny Green

-Garrett Temple

-Jeremy Lamb

-Justin Holiday

-Lance Stephenson

-Rodney Hood

-Reggie Bullock

-Furkan Korkmaz

Among others as well.

So, assuming there are no major trades this summer, who would you like the Pistons to sign? Which wing would you go after? So we sign a backup PG? Or try to get one in the draft? Should we draft a backup big?
