The Detroit Pistons currently sit in the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. They are a half game behind Brooklyn and Orlando in sixth and seventh, respectively, a game up on Miami and 1.5 games ahead of Charlotte — the team they play later today.
The bottom of the Eastern Conference is a mess of close records and tiebreakers and conference schedules and three-way ties being better for Detroit than four-way ties and all kinds of other things that I won’t pretend to completely understand.
Not because I can’t understand it, mind you, but because I choose to think the Pistons will just start winning games and be solidly in the playoffs. The team seems to be doing everything in its power to test that theory. If you want to understand all the playoff scenarios, go catch up on Matt Moore’s Twitter feed. He does all the hard work so we don’t have to.
Here is the breakdown of important games for Detroit — who should be rooting for a Pistons win (duh) and a Miami loss (I think).
