This game was a microcosm for the season.
At the end of the day, they were what they are: a team that’s just good enough to beat a Western Conference 32 win team that’s missing eight of their players.
But it’s tough to be so pessimistic for this recap, because this comeback was fun as hell!
Ish Smith orchestrated it, the three point shots started falling, and before you know it the Pistons were in control of the game.
Ish scored 13 fourth quarter points and had three assists, leading the way to a whopping 36-14 finale for the Pistons.
But buhjezus they sucked in the first half. The offense was just lousy, Blake Griffin is obviously hurt, and the Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson-led offense wasn’t working.
With the Grizzlies out the vast majority of their rotation, to be honest, it seemed a little bit like Ish pantsed them and ran away with the win.
They stay in the drivers seat for the playoff race. That’s good. They won a big comeback game. That’s good. But Blake is probably legitimately overused and hurt. That’s bad. And the Pistons needed a fourth quarter comeback full of drama, energy, and luck to pull it off against a shorthanded tanking team. If we’re being honest, that’s bad.
It may actually come down to game 82 to get this team into the playoffs. Good thing it’s against the Knicks. Maybe.
