Andre Drummond invited to USA basketball training camp

Drummond previously played for USA as part of gold medal-winning 2014 World Cup squad

Andre Drummond is one of 20 players selected to join the USA Men’s National Team training camp in August, USA Basketball announced.

The team will be coached by Gregg Poppovich of the San Antonio Spurs along with Warriors’ coach Steve Kerr, Hawks’ coach Lloyd Pierce and Villanova coach Jay Wright.

The training camp is in preparation for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, which serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The 32-team World Cup tournament begins Aug. 31 in China.

Drummond is one of four centers on the roster joining Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers, Brook Lopez of the Milwaukee Bucks and Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Other players named to the training camp roster are: Harrison Barnes, Sacramento Kings; Bradley Beal, Washington Wizards; Eric Gordon, James Harden and PJ Tucker, Houston Rockets; Tobias Harris, Philadelphia 76ers; Kyle Kuzma, Los Angeles Lakers; Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, Portland Trail Blazers; Kevin Love, Cleveland Cavaliers; Khris Middleton, Bucks; Paul Millsap, Denver Nuggets; Donovan Mitchell, Utah Jazz; Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics; and Kemba Walker, Charlotte Hornets.

Drummond, Davis and Harden all won gold in the 2014 World Cup, Gordon and Love won gold in the 2010 World Cup and Barnes, Davis, Harden, Love and Lowry all won Olympic golds in previous games.

The training camp will conclude with a red vs. blue exhibition game on Aug. 9 at T-Mobile Arena, then play an exhibition game Aug. 16 against Spain at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The final 12-member World Cup roster will be announced Aug. 17.
