Veteran shooting guard and Detroit native Jordan Crawford has been working out with the Detroit Pistons according to Ben Stinar of Amico Hoops.
However, for those puzzling over why a team that already has too many players on its roster would bring in a 30-year-old guard it likely doesn’t need, take note of the wording.
“Working out with the Detroit Pistons,” per Amico Hoops. Not working out FOR the Pistons. There are probably a couple things going on here:
- A local guy wants to continue his career but with a real shot at NBA roster looking unlikely he’s staying local and the team is nice enough to provide facilities and professionals
- Crawford wants to return to the NBA so this is simply a way of getting his name out there and reminding other franchises he still exists and hungry for another shot
- Crawford played overseas last season and is likely headed there again as you can still make a very good living in pro ball overseas. However, if he has decided to ease up on the gas pedal and wants to stay stateside, a spot with the Grand Rapids Drive would likely be preferable to any other G League destination. He played there for a season in 2016-17.
Crawford is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, aka the deepest position on the Pistons roster with a skillset that doesn’t stand out against any of his competition. He aint gonna stick in Detroit. He last played in the NBA in 2017-18 for a five-game stint with the New Orleans Pelicans.
