The Detroit Pistons can finally begin a new era starting tonight with the 2020 NBA Draft. The draft begins at 8 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN. After releasing veterans Reggie Jackson and Markieff Morris and trading long-time Piston Andre Drummond, Detroit is finally ready to rebuild itself in a new image.
Part of that will be picking No. 7 overall ... unless the team trades up or down on a night that promises to be a wild one with many teams jockeying for position. Part of that equation might also involve its few remaining veterans including star forward Blake Griffin, point guard Derrick Rose and sharpshooters Luke Kennard and Tony Snell.
Each has value as a contributor and some are on enticing expiring contracts (Rose, Snell) or are young enough to get a decent return (Kennard). Blake is the best of the bunch, but also the most expensive so his market will be more limited.
As far as who the Pistons will draft, your guess is as good as mine. Maybe Patrick Williams. Maybe LaMelo Ball. Maybe Killian Hayes. Maybe someone nobody is talking about.
Let’s sit back, collect some rumors, evaluate some trades and see who will don that Pistons cap, and help change this franchise.
