Laz talks to the Free Press’ Omari Sankofa about Media Week in Detroit

Lazarus Jackson (@lazchance) talked to Omari Sankofa II (@omarisankofa) about what we’ve learned from the Detroit Pistons’ Media Week so far.

That, in turn, became a discussion about collecting centers, Blake Griffin’s Comeback SZN, being on Twitter for over a decade, Josh Jackson’s Memphis Experience, moving during a pandemic, why the G-League is not a punishment, renouncing your fandom, Saddiq Bey’s pro-readiness, and much, much more.

It was really valuable to have Omari on because of his coverage of a team in a similar situation - he covered the Memphis Grizzlies last regular season for The Athletic. Memphis, like Detroit, was not thought of as a particularly talented team, but led by a rookie point guard, they played hard and smart every night and fought their way to the doorstep of the playoffs. Now, I hope the Pistons win fewer games than the Grizzlies did, but I think there are parallels to be drawn there, and I’m glad Omari helped me draw them out.

Follow Omari on Twitter, and read his work at the Detroit Free Press.
