Official DBB Big Board: With the first pick the Detroit Pistons select ...

VOTE: Who should be No. 1 on the Detroit Pistons big board?

This year is not a consensus year for the NBA Draft. That might mean it’s not the best year to have the overall No. 1 pick — there is no Zion Williamson or Anthony Davis to be found, after all — but it does create for fascinating discussions on how to build a team’s big board.

When there are no sure things it becomes important to think about what someone means by something as innocuous as “draft the best player available.” How one evaluates prospects, what skills the most covet and how they factor in not just skills but age, athleticism and impact on the court become sources of great debate and great intrigue.

It also makes for some great discussion as we build the Detroit Bad Boys Big Board for the 2020 NBA Draft. The Draft Lottery, where we learn the Pistons’ fate, is a mere nine days away. The draft, however, won’t be held until Oct. 16, which feels like a lifetime from now.

I want to do a big board now up, and then maybe we’ll do it again around NBA Draft time to see if anything changes as we evaluate players and read reports over the next two months of the Pistons doing nothing basketball related.

With that said, the key question becomes who should be No. 1 if the Pistons are lucky (or is it unlucky?) enough to get the No. 1 overall pick? Do you take LaMelo Ball and his distribution and playmaking? Anthony Edwards and his creation and scoring ability? Killian Hayes is being mentored by Will freaking Bynum, does that make him an automatic No. 1?

Make your voice heard. We have many brilliant minds at DBB who will continually break down the prospects, but we’re nothing until we have an official board to work from on draft night. Whose your No. 1 and why?

The list of names is compiled based on The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie and his big board dated July 29 because I like Sam and he has a good podcast you should give a listen. If you were hoping to pick another player, make it known in the comments and I’ll add them for the next version of the poll.
