Inside The Cylinder ep. 97: Sekou Doumbouya’s minutes — Is there something to the nothing?

Where Sekou?

NBA: Preseason-New York Knicks at Detroit Pistons Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

In this week’s episode of Inside The Cylinder, Matt and I break down Sekou Doumbouya’s minutes, or lack thereof. After a two-game stretch where the 20-year-old Doumbouya averaged just 5 minutes per game, and a third that saw him get a DNP-CD this past Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks, fans are asking questions and their concern is rising.

Head Coach Dwane Casey has noted that Doumbouya hasn’t played because he’s been buried in the power forward rotation, but there’s been some instances where Griffin hasn’t played due to rest, and that hasn’t resulted in major minutes for the second-year player from France. The situation is confusing, but at this point in the Pistons schedule, is it meaningful?

They’ll also discuss the following topics:

  • The point guard rotation following Killian Hayes’ hip injury
  • Detroit’s three point defense - what’s gone wrong? How do they fix it?
  • COVID-19 and it’s effect on the NBA schedule
  • The bottom of the NBA standings

All that and more in this week’s episode!
