I've read a variety of articles commenting on how Dwane Casey might use the mix of player on the roster. Sometimes it seems that adding a "trusted veteran" to the mix is suggested. I am inclined to like letting the young players develop chemistry and learn more through their experience. For fun I thought I'd suggest a variety of line-ups with some commentary, of course.
The Young Studs
PG Cade Cunningham
SG Jaden Ivey
SF Saddiq Bey
PF Isaiah Stewart
C Jalen Duren
This group puts all of the youngest players that seem central to our core group out at once. Stewart provides rebounding and defensive presence to help Duren in several ways, while the offensive firepower is likely focused with the Big Three back court and wing players.
Lightly Seasoned
PG Killian Hayes
SG Cade Cunningham
SF Saddiq Bey
PF Isaiah Livers
C Isaiah Stewart
This lineup doesn't rush the two new rookies, but allows what may become keep substitutes of the future to develop good chemistry with what are likely three of our most important players. Ivey and Duren both would get significant minutes in this scenario as substitutes, but wouldn't be put under as much immediate stress.
Pro's Pros
PG Corey Joseph
SG Cade Cunningham
SF Alec Burks
PF Kelly Olynyk
C Nerlens Noel
Could the young guns be kept out and brought in to meld with the more established players? This seems unlikely, but would this combination make the younger players hungrier for minutes and more aggressive when they enter games?
Eclectic Assortment
PG Cade Cunningham
SG Saddiq Bey
SF Alec Burks
PF Kelly Olynyk
C Isaiah Stewart
If Stewart has truly developed a good long range shot, this lineup could boast the most offense with solid reserves bringing athleticism and loads of energy.
There are other combinations of players that are on the roster that could somehow challenge for a starting spot, but these are likely the top candidates that will be considered and earn the roles. What do you like best? Or, do you want to propose something else?
