The 2025 NBA Championship Game Opponents

Just was trying to envision how the top two teams of the East and West would match-up, say around the year 2025.

You have to suspend your disbelief that LeBron James, Kevon Durant, Steph Curry, and other super stars instead of still playing will be retired. Perhaps you can envision them watching the games from home, or maybe providing color analysis for ESPN.

What I'm trying to say is, out with the old guard, and in with the new as the Pistons and Thunder players grow up to become elite and the cream of the crop of players in the league.

If that were to happen how would these two line-ups compare. In fact, I'll used this coming year's line-ups to compare the two young teams that I hope will come to be the future's best.

Playing in the guard rotation, Detroit features Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, and Killian Hayes as their 3 man rotation; Oklahoma City has the seasoned veteran Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, along with Josh Giddey, and Theo Maledon.

Playing forward, Detroit has Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart, Isaiah Livers, and Kevon Knox. Oklahoma City features Jalen Williams, Ousman Dieng, Lu Dort, and Aleksej Pokusevski.

At center, Detroit's big man is Jalen Duren, with Marvin Bagley backing him up. Oklahoma City is led by Chet Holmgren and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl.

It's a bit hard to wrap your brain around just who will become a star or super star yet, but let's try to imagine this transpires:

Cunningham and Ivey become the elite guard combination in the league. Oklahoma City's pair isn't far behind though.

Bey and Stewart form a reliable and very good pair, but probably the Oklahoma City's forwards are superior in terms of diverse skill set and perhaps the depth is at times overwhelming.

How do Duren and Holmgren match-up? Holmgren's shot from the outside will be hard to stop, but Duren has elite athleticism and can definitely out-muscle the Oklahoma big man.

Does this match up wind up as a 4-3 finish in the championship round? That would seem likely. Now if we can just get those pesky old veteran players to retire. Of course some of those younger guys like Ja Morant and Trae Young will have to fizzle too. Or, our guys will simply have to soar to new heights!
