Objection Overruled! Ben Wallace Wants To Be Your Lawyer

87

The Law Offices of Blocks, Rebounds, Hustle & Hustle [Ed. note - this is an old story that's getting some more run because Wallace is still looking into lawyering as a career after basketball, which may come sooner than later if there is no 2011-2012 season]

The Detroit Pistons fired 15 employees two weeks ago, a person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press.

From the AP. The timing suggests this is a direct result of the lockout, but it's at least possible it's the result of Tom Gores/Platinum Equity cleaning house, which presumably would have happened regardless of the league's labor situation.

Kelvin Sampson to back up McHale in Houston as Asst. Coach

6

Good news you morally and ethically sound Piston fans! With Sampson heading to Houston to support McHale, we no longer need to concern ourselves with the possibility of him heading up the Pistons next season. (Update from MW: As noted in the comments, Vincent Goodwill reports: "There is a loophole, though, for Sampson to become a head coach. Sampson has an out clause in his contract that would allow him to take a head coaching position without having to receive permission from the Rockets.")

Will Bynum to Maccabi Tel Aviv?

4
"A source exclusively informed 'Eurobasket' that Bynum, who played for Maccabi between the 2006-2008 seasons, expressed strong interest in and is eager to return to Israel for a so-called 'remix', where he would pair up with childhood friend, Jeremy Pargo, creating one of the most talented, fastest and most athletic back court line in Europe, as they will work to win a Euroleague title. 'Bynum would love to go back to Maccabi if it made sense,' said a source with knowledge of Bynum's situation... Bynum aka 'Bynumite', for his explosive athletic ability, played the last three seasons in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons and still has a signed contract with the organization. However, sources close to the player confirmed that he might be interested in opting out of his contract to join Maccabi. 'He did love playing overseas and especially with Maccabi and would never turn down an opportunity to go back if it made sense.' Israeli sources confirmed that Maccabi is negotiating contract terms with an NBA point guard." - David Pick, Eurobasket (Hat tip: HOOPSWORLD)

Austin Daye might consider playing overseas

3
"Not right away," Daye said. "But I'll consider it if I feel I need to. It's important for me to get the games and experience of a third year. It's the most important year in the NBA. If the season isn't going to start on time I might look into playing games overseas."

New York Post: Nets Want Nene, Tayshaun Prince

8
"Two unrestricted free agents, Denver's power forward/center Nene, and Detroit's small forward Tayshaun Prince, will be the Nets' prime targets when the lockout ends. Kris Humphries is a priority to re-sign -- but only at a reasonable price."
