Pistons down the Nets 98-93 to improve to 8-1 in the PSE.

Looking to bounce back from a tough loss to the elite Atlanta Hawks, the Pistons rolled up against a hapless Nets team in disarray after a humiliating 90-88 loss to Philadelphia the night before, and while this game certainly wasn't pretty, a win is a win, especially when you are now in the race for a playoff spot.

A monster crowd turned up to cheer for the recharged Pistons, as the level of interest in the team appears to be growing, evidenced by the 19,301 fans in attendance.

The first half carried out in usual fashion, with the Pistons opening leads but not being able to go on a game-killing run. The Nets went up three just before half time, but Kyle Singler a.k.a. Bucketman tripled to tie the game up at 47 heading into the long break. Brandon Jennings had a mixed half, going 0-4 from the field but dishing seven assists.

The second half was a totally different story for Jennings, as he changed his shoes and found his $WAG to score 20 points (on 6-for-13 shooting) and dish another 4 assists. He finished with 20 points, 11 assists and only one turnover, despite having a poor shooting night (6-17, 3-8 3FG, 5-9 FT). Greg Monroe put up a "soft" 16 points and 17 rebounds, while Andre Drummond added a quiet 14 and 9.

Good Points

-- Jonas Jerebko came alive in the second half, and his hustle and floor spacing really opened up driving lanes

-- The A:TO ratio of our PGs was outstanding, combining for 17 assists against only 2 turnovers

-- Jennings aside, the team had a decent night from the foul line, going 19-26 (.731). Jennings himself was 5-9, while Andre and Greg combined for 6-7

Bad Points

-- The bench backcourt, which had been on fire as of late, stunk it up tonight. Meeks and Augustin combined for 12 points on 3-16 shooting. Meeks looked flat tonight, going 1-9 himself, as all his shots fell well short

-- The team was outrebounded 46-44, not a huge margin, but when you have such solid rebounders, any negative margin is a concern

-- The Tolliverse did not eventuate tonight, with Tolliver only playing 5 minutes and not attempting a shot. Instead, we observed the Singularity and its 11 points and 3 made three pointers

The Ugly

-- Kevin Garnett

The Pistons now have a day off before facing the Raptors in Toronto. Tomorrow will be a chance to rest some weary legs after a successful 3-1 record in a five-day stretch. Drummond now has a chance to fully recover from whatever ails him, while the team can review film of tonight's ugly yet satisfying win.

The Pistons can move up on another team in the playoff picture by avenging their first loss in eight games from just the night before.

Game Vitals:

What's Up:

The Pistons lost for the first time in eight games on Friday night against the best team in the Eastern Conference. It was really ugly for a half, but Pistons fans had to love their resolve in the face of a rout against the red-hot Hawks. Down by 23 at one point in the game, the Pistons came all the way back to actually have a chance to force overtime at the final horn. They didn't, losing 106-103, but it was fun to see them compete with the best without their best player after such a lackluster first half. The loss did nothing to kill any optimism this fan has for the rest of the season.

Saturday night will be the team's first opportunity to respond to a loss since they waived Josh Smith on Dec. 22. They get a favorable matchup with the Brooklyn Nets, a team with the fourth longest losing streak (L4) in the NBA (and we should really stop paying attention to the Knicks and Timberwolves) and hasn't put up more than 88 points during that time. A win would put the Pistons not only at worst three games from the No. 8 seed in the playoffs, but also the No. 7 seed, which the Nets currently possess. They must hear footsteps and walls being formed.

The Nets will be without Deron Williams, who is out indefinitely with a fractured rib.

Last time we met:

Josh Smith was on the team, so it doesn't count. Smith was waived the day after the loss to the Nets and the Pistons have been for the better ever since.

Community Question:

Jarrett Jack off the high glass?
