The Detroit Pistons picked up the win against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday to go to 2-0. Here's how the players did.

With their win on Wednesday evening against the Utah Jazz, the Detroit Pistons are atop the Eastern Conference at 2-0. The last time the Pistons started the season 2-0 by winning a back-to-back was in 2007-08. That was, unfortunately, Flip Saunders' last season with the Pistons. #RIPFlip.

Maybe they were tired since it was the second game of a back-to-back. Maybe they dealt with nerves because it was the home opener. Whatever it was, last night's game was not pretty. Anyways, here are the Pistons player grades for their win against the Jazz.

Andre Drummond - 9.0

Drummond was 8-for-11 from the free-throw line. He made his first six and two others in crunch time to put the Pistons up five. On the season, which is only two games, he is 14-for-21. To put that in perspective, it took him 11 games last year for him to hit 14 free throws (in 33 tries). Combine that with him being 5-for-11 of the floor (he was 1-for-5 on hook shots) and grabbing 10 rebounds, a steal and two blocked shots, he had a good game.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope - 9.0

Caldwell-Pope continues to shoot well. Also 5-for-11 from the floor (2-for-5 from distance) and perfect from the line in four tries, KCP had 16 points while grabbing five rebounds and a steal. Also, his defense was really good. Guarding Rodney Hood most of the evening, KCP limited hood to 6-for-15 shooting. KCP held Hood blank from distance, 0-for-7. And one of those blanks was key to the Pistons' win. With seven seconds left in the game, up by three, Hood got open for a three-pointer by getting KCP caught on a screen. KCP fought through that screen and was so quick on his close-out that he blocked Hood's shot. That sealed the game. I guess you could call that/him robbin' Hood.

Marcus Morris - 8.5

Could you imagine if instead of Dumars signing Josh Smith he had signed Morris? No, he wasn't a free agent at the time, but the similarities are uncanny. Both are 6-foot-9. Smith is 225 pounds whereas Morris is 235. Both are not particularly great at the free-throw line. Both rebound well and get steals. Both like long twos But Morris is a better shooter. After a Smithian performance in the season opener going 6-for-19 while filling up the rest of the score sheet, Morris was 5-for-10 on Wednesday (connecting on his only 3) for 14 points. His defense is also much better, keeping Gordon Hayward in check most of the game. He did pick up a tech, so Reggie will have to pick up the check. His teammate's defense of his tech was awesome.

Ersan Ilyasova - 8.0

Ilyasova was not brought in to replace Greg Monroe. He is not going to do that offensively, defensively, nor on the boards. However, he's holding his own. He's shooting 50s across the board. He was 6-for-12 against the Hawks, he was 3-for-6 against the Jazz. He was 3-for-6 from deep against the Hawks, he was 2-for-4 against the Jazz. He's only taken two free-throws (against the Hawks), and made one. He also collected two rebounds, an assist, and a steal to go with his eight points. But what does not show up in the box score is the charges. Ilyasova drew at least three charges last night. I will admit, it does concern me some with how injury prone he is, but I love the spirit.

Stanley Johnson - 6.5

Johnson had a near mirror image game as he did against the Hawks. He was 3-for-10 against the Jazz and 1-for-3 from deep, the same as he was against the Hawks. And though he did not get any assists like he did against the Hawks, he did pull down five rebounds and got to the line four times, making all of them. The reason why he gets a higher grade than he did against the Hawks is because of his demeanor and drive in this game. In one specific instance, bringing the ball up court on the left side, he noticed that the Jazz were getting back lazily, so he drove hard making it to the front of the basket for a layup. An ugly layup, but it went in and was an example of his poise. On another play he ran up the court before anyone else and gave Steve Blake a narrow spot to get him a fast break layup. His shots will drop eventually.

Reggie Jackson - 6.0

You may wonder how Jackson could have a lower score than Johnson. Easy. Yes, 7-for-14 is nice from your point guard, and 1-for-3 from deep isn't bad. But 4-for-7 from the free throw line is. Getting as many turnovers as assists (four) is. And his play in the last 2:30 of the game was bad. After hitting his triple to put the Pistons up six with four minutes to go, Jackson air-balled a floater to cause a shot clock violation after too much dribbling, couldn't carom a pass from KCP for a turnover, and then turns the ball over by driving into the lane and doing a jump spin-around pass to Dre who was right behind him. Yes, he did make two free throws to put the game completely out of reach, but he almost cost the Pistons the game.

Steve Blake - 6.0

While his shooting wasn't great (1-for-3, missed only three-point attempt), he did collect seven assists opposite only one turnover. He also collected four rebounds. He was +10 which was third best on the team.

Aron Baynes - 3.0

Baynes played well in nearly 12 minutes, getting four points on 1-for-4 shootings and two free throws. He also pulled in three rebounds and recorded a block. He was -9 in plus/minus, worst on team.

Anthony Tolliver - 1.5

I like Tolliver, but his shot is missing. Granted, he may have been up all night with his newborn, but the only thing he provided was six rebounds and two assists. He missed all of his three shot attempts (only one attempt from three) and even missed his three free-throws.

Jodie Meeks - 1.0

Unfortunately Meeks got injured and will miss some time, but he only recorded one shot (and missed) and a foul. He was +5 in plus minus, however.

Reggie Bullock - 1.0

Seeing the court for the first time this season, Bullock got six minutes due to Jodie Meeks' injury. Missing his only shot and not getting any other stat, he was a neutral force. He was only -2 in plus/minus.

Joel Anthony - DNP/CD

Spencer Dinwiddie - DNP/CD

Stan Van Gundy - 8.0

The only thing holding Van Gundy's score down was his lack of timeout usage at the end of the game. As the lead was slipping away, multiple bad plays were had by the Pistons. With three timeouts left (and no fouls to give), it may have been better had Van Gundy used one timeout to calm the guys down. Obviously, they pulled out the win in the end (and maybe it was to show them they can push through it). But had this game gone the other way, that could have been a deciding factor.

Team - 7.0

The Pistons allowed 50 points in the paint. Yes, they were persistent and pulled out this win, but they allowed 50 points in the paint. Derrick Favors had 18, Hayward, Hood, and Alec Burks each had eight, Rudy Gobert had six, and Joe Ingles had two. The lane seemed open all night.

The Detroit Pistons are 2-0, but the home opener proved that there are still fans that need to be won back.

Let's go back to October 2014. The Pistons home opener was against the Brooklyn Nets. I had recently moved back to Michigan from Los Angeles and decided to trade in my League Pass money (and then some) for a 10 game ticket plan to see my favorite team live. I split 4 seats with my friends and being the die-hard fan of the group (I mean, I'm writing on DBB so obviously) I was the overly optimistic one. I remember walking in, trying to pump everyone up about Stan's first year, and how he could figure it out with Josh Smith, Greg Monroe, and Andre Drummond all on the court. Then the lights of The Palace dimmed.

What followed was a scene that was like a bad energy drink nightmare. There was loud rock music, videos of rally cars in downtown Detroit, Pistons highlights, more rally cars, more extreme sports, a basketball, motorcycles. Rinse. Repeat. I remember slinking down in my seat and saying to myself, "oh god, what is going on?"

On the floor you had dancers headbanging, the drumline trying to do their best Tommy Lee impession, and those flying dunk dudes doing their flying dunk thing. I would only call it impressive in the fact that everyone was owning it and couldn't realize the absurdity of their own actions. At the merciful ending, fireworks blasted and cut to Kid Rock standing at halfcourt - who even himself seemed to be saying "wtf did I just get myself into?"

It was a showy parade of nothingness. No substance. No theme to build around. And it's funny to look back on because that's kind of what the Pistons looked like through the first 30 games as well. We know the story after that. Bye Josh. Hi Swag. Bye Swag achilles. Hello Reggie. Drafting Stanimal.

And that brings us to last night.

I raced out to Auburn Hills right after work. Anxious. Excited. Wondering if I'm doomed for another headbanging-with-an-energy-drink type of spectacle. I was overly optimistic about the Palace crowd. That was a great Hawks win. Drummond has looked like the superstar we've envisioned. Big Stan clearly has the team going in the right direction. People must have taken notice. $15 in parking, and a shockingly short security line later, I sat down and realized how wrong I was -- the place was half full.

As the lights dimmed at The Palace, Mason told us to bust out our cell phone lights to "light up the Palace." A quarter of the crowd did so, as if to say to Mason, "not yet bud, we're not there just yet with this team."

The videos were thematic, clearly sticking with the Detroit Grind buildup they have worked on leading up to this. The same videos we've seen online. It was subdued, but not in a negative way. The player intros we're equally as humble, subbing out any fireworks for just a smoke machine, lights, and the magic of Mason's voice.

By this point, I am in awe of how restrained the festivities are. I mean this is Tom Gores' team. Have you seen the t-shirt cannons we have? Have you seen our jumbotron? Who locked him in a closet and greenlighted this behind his back?

Then Drummond took the mic. A symbolic moment of him clearly becoming the face of the franchise. Last year. when our home opener included a team with Josh Smith, Greg Monroe, Brandon Jennings, and Andre, you know who took the mic? Caron Butler.

Now it's Andre's team. But he too was humble and quiet about thanking us for coming out. Even when he told the crowd the team was shooting for the playoffs, it was kind of in a hopeful, maybe-ish, don't quote me on it type of way. It took the mayor of Detroit Trick Trick to come out before tip and swear on the PA for us to even really get out of our seats and cheer.

The Palace that was half full at player intros never got to capacity last night. You can blame it on a weekday home opener. You can blame it on the bad weather. But the truth is, a lot of fans aren't there yet with this team. The fact that our victory against the Hawks was the Pistons first time over .500 since 2009 says it all - this team hasn't been a winning team in six years.

The crowd that was in attendance last night was treated to a very Eastern Conference-y game. The offense was never flowing like it does at Oracle arena, and there was no showy Staples Center breakaway dunks. Instead, it was two young, scrappy teams going back and forth all night. The crowd bought into it by the start of the 4th, when the game turned into a frenetic pace that felt hockey-esque.

What I enjoyed watching almost as much as the game were the personalities of the players on the court. The way Tolliver took Stanley Johnson aside after his first Joey Crawford touch foul. The way Baynes laughs after getting called for rough fouls. The way Stan laughed with the bench after Baynes missed an alley-oop and got fouled. The intensity of Marcus Morris the entire night. The fact that Stanley, Drummond, and Morris all rocked Jordan 11s. The way Reggie Jackson barked at KCP after sinking the first free throw to seal the game in the fourth.

Much like the introductions preceding the game, this team has substance. It has a theme. There are no fireworks or rally cars this year, and it's for the best. Because now the Pistons have something much better than that: an identity. And a 2-0 record to go along with it.

The backcourt tandem helped seal a 92-87 win in the Pistons' home opener.

Back-to-back games. Back-to-back scares of fourth quarter collapses. Back-to-back wins. For the first time since 2008, the Pistons are 2-0, and who really cares how?

After seeing a 19-point lead shrivel to six in the season opener, the Pistons stood by and watched a six-point lead in their home opener on Wednesday night completely disappear in the final three and a half minutes. Gordon Hayward had such an easy lane to the basket to put the Jazz up one with 23 seconds, he barely worked up a sweat and his hair still looked ready to kill it at a frat formal.

Stan Van Gundy called timeout and told his $80 million point guard to 'go make a play' -- or did he tell him to 'find a way to win'? Either way, Jackson obliged:

After a Jazz miss out of a timeout, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope sank two free throws to put the Pistons up by three. The Jazz called another timeout and again came up unsuccessful in knocking down a shot, this time not even getting the shot beyond the half circle, because KCPD was there to stop the unlawful activity:

As you can see, KCPD fights off a mean Derrick Favors screen and recovers in time to block Rodney Hood's shot. Jackson wound up with the rebound with 4.1 to play and was immediately fouled. He then iced the game on the other end. Pistons win 92-87.

Here's Jackson's on-court interview after the game:

The Pistons defended their home court against a rough and tumble Jazz team, hanging on for a 92-87 win.

Opening night at The Palace! If you were thinking explosive, fire-spouting, ear splitting intros, well lemme tell you! They didn't really happen.

After a subdued Mason introduction, the Pistons followed suit, with only humble Ersan Ilyasova jump shots keeping them afloat early. The Jazz used Gordon Hayward as the pick setter in early PnR's, and the Pistons soft switched each time, leading to easy drives and post-ups for the swingman against smaller defenders. Reggie Jackson and Marcus Morris started somewhat passively on offense, though some of Morris's hesitation to attack may have been due to a trademark early Joey Crawford ticky-tack offensive foul call. In contrast to the first game of the season, this time the Pistons reserves seemed to stabilize a wobbly attack, with Steve Blake, Anthony Tolliver and Jodie Meeks coming in and driving the ball and swinging it with more purpose, leading to a 9-1 run to end the quarter.

In the second quarter the Pistons bench players continued to loosen up the stiff Jazz defense. Steve Blake penetrated off the dribble, setting up Aron Baynes with pretty bounce passes inside. Stanley Johnson continued to be aggressive both shooting and attacking the glass, which seemed to rub off on Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. KCP came to life with consecutive drive and finishes inside - including a flashy little finger roll. Derrick Favors proved to be the most troublesome opponent early, with his mix of power and skill making it tough for SVG to find the right defensive matchup. Despite the higher scoring in the quarter (the first quarter was 16-15 Pistons but the Jazz won the second 29-25), the Pistons continued to struggle to get the ball through the hoop, shooting 40% from the field and 10-16 on FT's at the half. Meanwhile, the Jazz shot 13-19 in the quarter. No bueno.

The Pistons started the third quarter with much better energy, opening the scoring with a successful Andre Drummond post-up, then a Jackson runner, then KCP drew a foul on an aggressive drive. The fun wouldn't last; the Jazz defense again mucked up the flow of the game. A major assist should also go to Joey Crawford, whose fingerprints remained all over the game, with uneven calls going in both directions. Blake came back off the bench to return some movement to the Pistons attack, driving and dishing like the seasoned pro that he is.

The fourth quarter began with the Pistons bench still bringing the good vibes and aggressiveness. Stanley Johnson caught the Jazz sleeping on a couple of one-man fast breaks, again showing a surprising willingness to attack for a 19-year-old. More of that, please, Stanley. The endgame became a grind-it-out affair, with the Pistons and Jazz trading offensive fouls: Reggie committed the worlds most obvious hook, but Morris took a clutch charge from Hayward.

Jackson's tendency to try and beat pressure with the dribble instead of the pass almost proved very costly, as possession after possession ended with him dribbling until the shot clock was about to expire and the Jazz mounted a final comeback attempt. But the PnR of Reggie and Andre that so much of the Pistons' future hopes hinge upon ultimately was the difference maker, as a solid pick from Dre freed a lane to the hoop and Rudy Gobert was too worried about a lob to fully commit before Jackson had muscled up a game-deciding bucket.

Kelser's Kudos

Andre Drummond. The formula is here, and it is good. Dre didn't score a decisive knock out, but he won his matchup with Gobert. With that in the bag, the supporting cast mainly had to play good perimeter D, and make some threes. They did just enough of both to win, but it all starts with the big guy.

George Blahaha Moment of the Night

Ersan Ilysova drew three charges by my count, and each one was as effective as a steal or monster block; one actually robbed Gobert of a directly-off-the-backboard layup. His veteran savvy has so far been a huge boon to the team, not only on offense but on defense, giving opposing teams something else to worry about when driving to the hoop.

Other Notes

2-0 and it feels good.

Now your thoughts!

Really not a good start to Jodie Meeks' season.

Jodie Meeks' sore right foot has been downgraded to a fracture, according to Keith Langlois. Meeks limped off the court a couple minutes into the second quarter and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game while he underwent x-rays. Unfortunately, Meeks and the Pistons couldn't dodge the injury bullet with these x-rays, as the images came back showing a fracture.

The medical term for Meeks' break is a Jones fracture. If you recall, this is the same foot fracture that Kevin Durant suffered last season. While Durant was initially given a 6-8 week timeline by the Oklahoma City Thunder, he required multiple surgeries to get things straightened out and was ultimately lost for the season. Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys is currently looking to return from the same injury within his 4-6 week timeframe.

No timetable is being given for Meeks at this time.

We'll update as soon as more information becomes available.

Reggie Bullock, your time to shine is now, young man.

Not a great start to the season for Jodie Meeks.

Jodie Meeks had to leave the Detroit Pistons' second game of the season, limping to the locker room with 9:32 left in the first half.

The Pistons announced shortly thereafter that Meeks would get x-rays and he would not return with a sore right foot.

Meeks, possibly an underrated x-factor to the Pistons this year, struggled in the Pistons season opener. He was only 1-for-4 shooting in just under 11 minutes of action. He missed his only shot attempt on Wednesday night.

We'll update you as soon as we know more information.
